On the inspiration for the collection:
“The inspiration behind the collection ‘Eccentric Romantics’ was the individual; a girl who travels, reads literature and poetry, a bohemian spirit who collects fabrics and objects as she travels.”
How the look was achieved:
“The collection has elements from historic subcultures: Mods, the Teddy Girls, the gypsy.
I used Kevin Murphy products to style the hair, which gave shine and hold to my small tong set in the big hair free spirit curls look, I used Doo.Over to give air and volume to the hair.
On the short look with the antique brooches – this model’s hair was just below shoulders – I pinned the hair using pin clips to scaffold the hair and then I sewed the hair into the short shape.
In the black-haired model with the short, rounded fringe, I contrasted strong lines against texture. I used a wax to create a stringy texture.
The Teddy Girl roll was set in a medium tong, and then combed out with a wide tooth comb. I rolled the top horseshoe section and sprinkled Powder.Puff to help me shape this look. The sides were kept tight to the head using Session.Spray to laminate.”
What the award means to you:
“It feels amazing that other people and the leaders in our industry have recognised my work and there’s something in it that appeals to them. It just feels beautiful.”
Any advice for entering awards:
“My advice for entering the Hair Expo Awards is plan well ahead with your concept; develop a strong brief to share with your collaborators; and to pick your team and your models wisely. Be really prepared on the day and be authentic: don’t copy what has won before, create your own vision of how you see things, and that way your work will stand out.”
