Dyson wrapped their illustrious Professional Education Roadshow at Carriageworks on 11 November, in what was a spectacular finale of innovative and creative entertainment and education in Sydney; the final destination after their previous Roadshows in Perth, Melbourne and New Zealand throughout this year.
The team of bona fide hair heroes and Dyson ambassadors, Jayne Wild, Renya Xydis, Frank Apostolopoulos, Joey Scandizzo and Michael Beel, inspired and educated audiences with demonstrations of bold professional and consumer hairstyles using revered Dyson tools. Combining their immense talents as individual hair artists with the added precision of Dyson tools to each create two signature looks, the Sydney Dyson Professional Education Roadshow was a showstopping display of technical skill and creativity.
Jayne’s first look demonstrated the ultimate shaggy shoulder-length curls where volume and shape played hero roles. Utilising the Dyson Diffuser attachment on the formidable Dyson Supersonic™ professional hairdryer and hero styling products topped off with precise scrunching, the look illustrated simplistic perfectionism. Jayne’s second look of the evening was a stunning representation of the playfulness of height and shape. The structured up-do featured varied lengths and subtle waves, created using the Dyson Airwrap™ styler.
Renya’s opening look was a masterful display of creativity and artistic prowess. Incorporating her love of braids, Renya created a tapestry of hair woven and intertwined with bright pink and purple fabric across the base of her model’s head, mimicking a headpiece. The creation illustrated Renya’s immense eye for editorial artistry and is a representation of her unwavering skill. Below the tapestry flowed long straight hair which was blow dried to perfection using the Styling Concentrator attachment on the Dyson Supersonic™ professional hairdryer. Next on Renya’s styling agenda was a look beautifully adorned in strings of gold Kela beads. A voluminous pony tail tied the look together, incorporating extensions for an editorially-inspired aesthetic that complemented her initial look.
Frank’s opening look was an audacious representation of his skill and the trust his model instilled in him. Frank transformed the model’s long straight hair, cutting extreme layers throughout the body and ends of the hair, playing with its thickness and creating an artistic aesthetic. Following the cut, Frank applied the Dyson Supersonic™ professional hairdryer and the Diffuser attachment, creating volume and movement in the hair for a tussled, touchable, style that Frank noted is aligned with his signature salon style and is often how his clients leave his salon after an appointment. Frank’s second look was defined by whimsical shoulder length waves that could take a client from day to night. The Dyson Airwrap™ styler was the hero tool for this look, allowing Frank to create soft and elegant curls and waves for a refined style.
Joey tailored his looks to trends derived from the Spring Racing Carnival, with his first creation a sleek and sophisticated up-do that incorporated a long sweeping side fringe which he tucked behind his model’s ear and secured with statement hair clips. The polished and sophisticated body of hair was secured in a sleek pony tail, the length of which was lightly curled using the Dyson Airwrap™ styler. At the base of the ponytail Joey sewed an intricate pointed spine from the crown of the head to the base of the neck, which gave the ponytail height and volume. He then secured the length of the ponytail to the base of the head with additional hair clips to complete the look. Joey’s second look was a stunning representation of current trends combined with his signature playful yet skilled style. Joey’s personal take on the classic top knot was epitomised with sleek sides adorned in stunning hair accessories and intricately curled edges showcasing precision and extreme detail. The look was topped off with gelled curls spelling ‘Joey’ embellished on to the face of the model, gently set with the Dyson Supersonic™ professional hairdryer.
Michael utilised the Dyson Airwrap™ styler to create a look that can only be surmised as ‘ultimate tussled beach waves meet grungy rockstar’ on his long haired male model. The Airwrap™ styler created effortless curls and waves that Michael slightly brushed out to create a masculine and refined finish. Michael’s final look was a beehive style that defied gravity and mastered the perfect combination of a polished yet textured finish. Michael joked with the audience that this look was inspired by his time working at fashion week where he created an “army of alien femme bots” which is certainly translated in this audacious look.
The Roadshow closed with a runway show for a final view of the stunning hair looks created that evening, followed by a Q + A with the ambassadors. They answered audience questions and discussed topics including the need for apprentices and changing the perception of hairdressing as a career choice in the school system, the importance of being positive even in the hardest times for the sake of your staff and salon, the importance of hiring staff who inspire you and who you can see as family, what they’ve each learned through their illustrious careers as well as from each other, and what inspires them to continue creating hair masterpieces.
Sydney’s Dyson Professional Education Roadshow was an incredibly inspiring evening combining extreme skill and hair artistry from the formidable Dyson ambassadors with Dyson’s cutting-edge technology. Showcasing the endless possibilities that can be produced when talent and technology are combined, the Roadshow left attending professionals feeling inspired and motivated to take these important key messages and techniques back to their salons for the benefit of their careers and clients.
