Here are Lisa’s top five tips for attending Hair Expo Australia 2018 in Melbourne as a sole operator…
1. Hear from me! I’ll be sharing nine ways that you can take your business to a whole new level at Hair Expo, especially for the sole operator and freelancer…
This was a hugely successful educational session when it debuted at Beauty Expo Melbourne in March, and it’s not surprising when you think about why that might be. Sometimes, the sole operator or freelancer can get left behind, which is really a bit ridiculous when you think about it, because everybody starts out on their own and whether you want to stay on your own or you want to grow, the education – while it can be adapted to suit different business types – is pretty much the same. Fundamentally, it’s looking at who you’re looking after; how well you are looking after them; and how often they are coming back. That’s the foundation. There’s advice I’ll be sharing around protecting yourself in business because you are on your own and burnout can be hugely impacting. There are lots of really great tips I’ll be giving you and I think you’ll be delighted!
2. Being a sole operator can be lonely
When you don’t have any colleagues around, it can mean you don’t have as much energy as you would in a large team. The good news is, you don’t have to worry about the team members who drag you down, but it can still be a lonely game. Getting out amongst your peers at events like Hair Expo is so valuable, as it provides a ‘top-up’ for your energy levels and everybody needs that! But especially the freelancer and sole operator because it can be so isolated.
3. The year is whooshing past!
Think about the things you want to do in 2018 – have you started achieving them yet? In June, it’s the halfway point of the year and it’s time to look and see where you are going in your plans of growth this year. For a lot of you, you probably aren’t where you wanted to be. That’s okay because you can take stock and absolutely rock the second half of the year! You need a plan and then you’ll be able to seriously get stuff done! What I want you to do is to end this year on a happy high – that’s really important – and Expo is a great place to reboot.
4. Be the first to see the latest!
This is where all the product companies and brands come together; launch their best work and best ideas – so why wouldn’t you want to see them first? To have them all under the same roof, at the same time, at one event makes so much sense. You need to get on board. You will love it and they will love to present to you, so it’s really important that you not only wander around the stands, but you engage in all the education as well.
5. This is where the cool kids hang out!
Hair Expo is when all the after-parties and events happen; once again, it’s a time to be around like-minded people, unwind, and sometimes all the great networking and activities that occur at these events are just as valuable as the exhibition that you see. So it’s really vital that you get involved and that you make time to have some fun amongst your friends. Make sure you take your friends and you’ll also bound to make new ones once you get there!
I can’t wait to see you all at Hair Expo!
