Sally Brooks has been named the British Hairdresser of the Year at the 2018 British Hairdressing Awards, the second consecutive year she’s taken out the prestigious title.
Sally was one of seven nominees for the top accolade in British hairdressing; including Angelo Seminara, Errol Douglas, Jamie Stevens, Cos Sakkas, Hooker & Young, and Darren Ambrose. Her creative collection of eight images projected simplicity, while demonstrating exceptional technicality and execution.

“This is the first shot taken and the first shot sets the tone for the whole collection as you can’t go back and shoot it again. The first shot always takes the longest to make sure the photographer and makeup and styling is what you are happy with. It has the most tweaks in lighting and here the most tweaks in styling. I eventually settled on this vibe and we decided to use the same dress in all of the images. The linen fabric gives the organic feel I wanted. A beautiful simple image with a soft outline of hair. The girls hair underneath is much shorter so I emphasised the shape to keep it subtle and contemporary” Sally Hair @sallybrookshair Photographer @jenny_hands Mua @lanslondon Stylist @ann.shore
Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of the awards, commented that Sally “creates the most wonderful images that look effortless but take incredible skill to execute. She understands how to make hair commercial, relatable and above all else, utterly desirable”.
The awards, which have been running for more than 30 years, were presented at a glitzy gala event at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 26 November and were attended by more than 1,700 hairdressing professionals.
Sally’s pared-back collection with its neutral tones and simple styling is a sharp contrast against her colourful, punchy 2017 collection. Congrats Sally!
