Q+A with Nicholas
Congrats on winning Apprentice of the Year. How did you feel when you were announced as the winner?
Winning Hair Expo Apprentice/Student of the Year 2018 was such an amazing and incredible experience. Hard work and support from my industry mentors Angela Pastore and Rebecca Faraone, CEO’s of Colour Cosmetica Studio and Academy, and family, had led me to the hairdressing accolade. It was a feeling you cannot explain. No words can describe what an honour it was to receive Hair Expo Apprentice/Student of the Year 2018. It’s a dream come true to win such a prestigious award and for my work to be recognised within the industry.
Where did you get the idea behind your creative collection?
I wanted to create a collection that is wearable and authentic in its appeal, with colour and style work that displays forward-thinking fashion across a range of well-executed technical skills. The inspiration behind NeoClassic is a vintage, authentic finish infused with bright neon colours and sharp, classic angles. I wanted to bring back the classic sharp haircuts and also add a twist of neon colours to it.
Why did you decide to enter the Hair Expo Awards this year?
I decided to enter the Hair Expo Awards this year as I have reached a point of my career where I believe that my skills are at an outstanding level to show to the industry. Angela Pastore and Rebecca Faraone have always allowed my creative skills to grow, into the person I am today. I love making people look and feel amazing and this award recognises my passion for making people feel like a million dollars.
Who do you look up to in the industry? /Who inspires you?
As mentors and industry leaders, Angela Pastore and Rebecca Faraone inspire me every day. From building and running a successful studio and academy, they have shown and inspired me to grow into a successful man. I look up to them every day, as they have taught me where hard work, determination and perseverance gets you in life. I also get inspiration from our team at Colour Cosmetica, as we share our knowledge and experiences together. I have always believed in following your dreams, as dreams can come true. Education equals success – the more you know, the more successful you will be.
What do you hope to achieve in the year ahead?
My professional career goals are constantly growing and developing. Career-wise, I wish to keep learning and improving my skills in the hair, makeup, beauty and fashion industries and cover all facets, including further qualifications in makeup artistry, fashion photography, event management, and creative writing techniques. I would have completed my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and educate and assess in Colour Cosmetica Academy with full diplomas and certificates throughout the 36 qualifications. I will be achieving my goal of becoming a Creative Director, to reach the highest standard. I will develop skills in makeup, fashion photography, event management and many more. I want to participate and qualify for first-place status in national awards for creative and academic achievements. I will have built an abundant strong loyal clientele. My personal goals for the next 12 months include developing my communication skills, networks, and leadership techniques; to start and complete my graduate certificate in hairdressing creative leadership, attend more national and international industry conferences, attend more industry artist shows, participate in as many industry events as I can and develop more mind body and soul knowledge. And to be the best ever brand ambassador for Colour Cosmetica studio, salon and academy.
