There are only five sleeps until the biggest weekend on the hair industry calendar! Hair Expo 2018 hits Melbourne on Saturday 9 June for three days of inspiration, networking, and discovery. From seeing your hair idols to what you can explore on the expo floor, here are five reasons you won’t want to miss this year’s show.
1. See these international hairdressing names under one roof
Bringing the industry together, Hair Expo is the place to see (and meet!) your hairdressing idols. This year’s superstar line-up includes Tabatha Coffey, who will be doing two special meet and greets on the Expo floor (at these times and locations); Main Stage appearances by Hollywood colourists Guy Tang and Tracey Cunningham; and inspiring educational seminars and workshops from British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara and balayage expert Candy Shaw (The Balay Lama®). Candy Shaw checked in with us from Premiere Orlando over the weekend to share how excited she is for expo! See her message below.
2. To discover the products you might not yet know about
The show floor is the place where you can discover the latest hair products and technologies to take back to the salon. It’s the platform from which many innovations are launched each year, and in 2018 visitors will be some of the first to experience new releases from brands like Dyson, Previa, Excellent Edges, Activance, Parlux, Oribe, Andis, De Lorenzo, Pulp Riot, WAHL, and many more. See our round-ups on what’s launching at expo, from bio-glitter to men’s innovations to Dyson’s new Professional Supersonic, and get your shopping bags ready.
3. The GenNext Gala
Hair Expo 2018’s evening galas present an opportunity for the industry to unwind and be inspired by thrilling showcases in hair fashion. This year’s GenNext Gala will be co-hosted by celebrity columnist Richard Reid and industry heavyweight, Jules Tognini. Eight teams are set to take to the stage to present their showcases, and there’ll also be a main act from the Matrix Playground team featuring some of Australia’s leading hair artists: Stevie English, Kobi Bokshish, Adam Ciaccia, Uros Mikic, Mat Johnson, and Paul Ricupito. Read more about what’s in-store for our GenNext Gala.
4. The Stages
A ticket to Hair Expo 2018 equals endless inspiration, with three stages at the show hosting non-stop demos from local and international names in hair. This year we’ve introduced a new Styling Stage, sponsored by Dyson, which will have presenters showcasing all kinds of styling – from avant-garde to salon staples. What’s more, these presentations are all free with a Hair Expo pass! Check out the line-ups for Main Stage, Styling Stage and Men’s Stage and get ready to be inspired.
5. The Hair Expo Awards Gala (and the after party)
On the last day of Hair Expo, the hair industry comes together for the pinnacle event of the long weekend – the Hair Expo Awards Gala. It’s here that the winners of the most prestigious accolade in the industry are announced and celebrated over a three-course feast and a line-up of entertainment. In 2018, the gala will be hosted by actor and musician Natalie Bassingthwaighte, with a performance from Australian R&B singer Thando (check out her soulful sounds below), and hair shows from the 2017 Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Jason Fassbender; and the 2017 New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year, Danny Pato. The fun’s set to continue after the awards, with an exclusive ELEVEN Australia after party set to cap off the Hair Expo weekend. Get your dancing shoes and your finest threads together so you’re red carpet-ready for the biggest night on the hairdressing calendar.
