It’s no secret that the bridal industry continues to expand rapidly, with hairstyling an integral part of the business. At Hair Expo, Lorna Evans will be holding a Look ‘n’ Learn session on how having a dedicated bridal stylist in the salon will enhance your business and draw new clients through the door.
We spoke with Lorna about the challenges and rewards of bridal styling and what you can expect during her Today’s Bride session at Hair Expo 2018.
What is it about the bridal industry that is such a lucrative option for hairstylists?
For a confident stylist, the Bridal industry is gold for many reasons. Here’s a couple!
- The wedding party often has more than one client booked at one time and often will also introduce new clients to the salon. We have clients that we looked after over 20 years ago for their special day, and still to this day we look after their colour on a regular basis. Like most salons, colour is where we make the majority of our takings, however, if we don’t have a stylist who can style hair well, we then risk that the client will visit another salon and enjoy the service and not return.
- You will be surprised at how many referral clients that come from a Bridal party! When you do a great job at styling, everyone wants to know who your hairdresser was and this builds both your styling and your colour business.
What’s different about bridal styling, in your opinion, compared to other types of special occasion styling?
I would say it’s not so much the techniques that differ, it’s more the occasion and the excitement that comes with a Bridal party. To be successful in building your business, communication and speed is so important. I often hear stylists say they love the styling but the whole wedding party is a nightmare. My suggestion is to make sure your consultation is clear on what you require of the Bridal party before you arrive.
This is a little tutorial I put together to help you!
What would you like stylists to know about your Hair Expo Look ‘n’ Learn?
This year, we will be showcasing fast, simple looks that can be easily reproduced in your salon. For the past two years, we have been working together with a mechanical engineer to develop a double action pin that will help stylists hold hair easier and with fewer pins. Our Look ‘n’ Learn session will be very much a learning environment, so bring a pen – we will have head sheets and lots of giveaways!
