On what the award means to you:
“It’s unbelievable, totally unbelievable, I never in a million years thought I’d be a finalist, let alone the winner. Hopefully, this will bring me a lot of opportunities. I’m really looking forward to promoting the industry and helping to forge forward with what we do.”
Has your Hair Expo Award win prompted any positive business outcomes for you so far?
“The response has been amazing! We’ve had a real influx of new clients and everyone really loves being part of the buzz surrounding the award. The feedback from the judges and the Australian hairdressing community has been very humbling and very beautiful. It’s an experience I will treasure forever.”
How did you achieve the looks in your collection?
“The overall texture story of the collection was very natural, nothing too forced or polished. Texture was created in the hair through various methods of back cutting, slicing, and lots of freehand detailing – I always start with a structured base and then personalise to suit each girl. A combination of salt sprays, dry powders and light working sprays helped refine the finished looks.”
What is it that you love about being a hair professional?
“The fact that we get to hang out in a salon with cool people, be creative, make people happy and get paid for it still blows my mind every day. Not many people can say that – we really do have one of the best jobs in the world.”
What advice do you have for those considering entering the Hair Expo Awards 2018?
“Do it! Do it for you. Be proud of your work and don’t enter to win, enter to produce something you truly love. The process is time-consuming, energy-draining, and hard but 100% worth it! Choose your team wisely and when you see your combined efforts materialise and your vision come to life, it really is a beautiful thing.”
Is there anyone (or anything) that you continually look to for inspiration for your work?
“I’m a fashion junkie so I’m always looking at what’s happening in campaigns, editorials and on runways around the world to gather inspiration. I get off on the ‘total package’ so seeing hair, makeup and styling come together to create a character or a story really excites me.”
